Microchipping your dog is so important as it is a
permanent way of identifying your dog as yours,
if your dog ever goes missing
they will be checked for a license (Northern Ireland) and also
scanned for a chip, if their license has been removed or lost the
microchip will
be the only way of
knowing the dog is yours and will mean he is returned to you
more quickly, also, microchipping will become compulsory very soon, so
there is no better time to get it done.
FAQs
What is a
microchip? A microchip is a tiny chip that contains a unique
number which can be scanned by rescue centres, vets, dog wardens and
other qualified microchip implanters.
Do dogs have to
microchipped by law? Not yet, but there are steps being taken to
introduce a new law that will require all dogs to be microchipped,
this could take effect within the next 12 months so it is worth
doing it now and avoiding the rush.
Is it painful?
The chip is implanted using a needle just like an injection, it is
inserted under the dogs skin between the shoulders and is permanent,
for most dogs it is not painful but it may be uncomfortable for a
very brief moment.
How does it
work? The unique number in the microchip is kept on a database
with your contact information, when the chip is scanned, the number
will be found on the database and then you can be contacted.
How much does it cost? On average you
should expect to pay between £12-25 to have your dog microchipped |
